Periodontal disease, commonly referred to as gum disease, is a serious bacterial infection that affects the tissues and bone supporting your teeth. If left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss and cause significant damage to your oral health. At Richmond Dental, we offer comprehensive periodontal disease treatment to help prevent and manage gum disease, restoring and maintaining the health of your gums and teeth.
Periodontal disease starts as gingivitis, which is the inflammation of the gums due to plaque buildup. If this early stage is not addressed, it can progress into a more severe form of gum disease, known as periodontitis. This condition damages the tissues and bone that support the teeth, which can result in tooth mobility, gum recession, and even tooth loss.
At our friendly dental practice in Worcestershire, we take a proactive approach to managing and treating gum disease. Our skilled dentists and hygienists are trained to identify the early signs of periodontal disease and provide the most effective treatments to help manage the condition.
One of the primary treatments for periodontal disease involves the removal of tartar and plaque that accumulate around the teeth and gums. Plaque, if not removed, hardens into tartar, which can only be effectively removed by a dental professional. Our hygienists will use specialised instruments to clean around and beneath the gum line, removing tartar and plaque build-up to help restore the health of your gums.
In addition to professional treatment, maintaining an effective oral hygiene routine at home is important for preventing and managing periodontal disease. Our local dentists will work closely with you to ensure you understand the best techniques for brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash to keep your gums and teeth healthy. Regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste, combined with daily flossing, can help prevent plaque buildup and reduce the risk of gum disease.
